The Great North Run

The 2006 Great North Run is taking place on Sunday the 1st October. Thousands of people from all over the world will be taking part in the 13.1 mile race from Newcastle-Upon- Tyne to South Shields in aid of their chosen Charity. This year BUPA's nominated charity is 'Marie Curie Cancer Care' but a full listing of the charities can be found on

The race was conceived by Olympic Bronze Medalist Brendan Foster in 1981, when 12,000 people ran. However it has steadily grown so that last year over 50,000 runners took part.

My daughter Becky who lives and works in Newcastle is running for the second year. The experience of goodwill and tremendous support for the participants made the occassion last year a very memorable and worthwhile one. This year she is running on behalf of Breast Cancer.

Living in the South East I would like to take this opportunity to wish her and everyone else taking part all the very best for the day. Raise lots of money for your chosen charity and have fun!

Hope the sun shines for you.
